Michael Boyle Michael Boyle

Michael Boyle is one of the foremost experts in the fields of Strength and Conditioning, Functional Training and general fitness. He currently spends his time lecturing, teaching, training and writing. In 1996 Michael co founded Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning, one of the first for-profit strength and conditioning companies in the world. Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning exists for one reason: to provide performance enhancement training for athletes of all levels. Athletes trained range from junior high school students to All Stars in almost every major professional sport.

Prior to Co- founding Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning, Michael served as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Boston University for 15 years, also for the past 25 years he been  the Strength and Conditioning Coach for Men's Ice Hockey at Boston University.  Mike also was the Boston Red Sox  strength and conditioning coach in 2013 that won the World Series. In addition to his duties at Boston University and the Red Sox, from 1991-1999 Boyle served as the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League. Michael was also the Strength and Conditioning Coach for the 1998 US Women's Olympic Ice Hockey Team, Gold Medalists in Nagano and 2014 Silver medalists in Sochi, and served as a consultant in the development of the USA Hockey National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Michael has been a featured speaker at numerous strength and conditioning and athletic training clinics across the world and has produced 20 instructional videos in the area of strength and conditioning available through M-F Athletic. Michael has also lectured all over the world. In addition, Michael published Functional Training for Sports for Human Kinetics Publishers. Mike and his wife Cindy have 2 children, Michaela and Mark and reside in Reading.

Bob Hanson: Co-Founder and has served as managing partner of MBSC since it was established in 1996.

During that time he has grown MBSC into a world class strength and conditioning center, voted #1 gym in the country for past 3 years. Bob has a strong reputation of dedication, knowledge and personal attention toward managing MBSC, along with MBSC Thrive, bodybyboyleonline www.bodybyboyleonline.com and Certified Functional Strength Coach, www.Certifiedfsc.com. Bob has also been involved in youth hockey with over 20 years coaching experiance.

Bob is married to Diane Hanson, a familiar face to the athletes and personal training clients at the gym where she works in the office and handles all day to day operations. Bob and Diane have 3 children Christine, Bobby JR and Matthew. and three grandchildren Trey, Cassidy and Tenley. Bobby JR graduated from Boston University and played hockey for the Terriers, and CHL and in Germany, he also played Dave Silk in the movie "MIRACLE." Matt graduated from the University of Vermont, Matt also played hockey for the University of Vermont for the Catamounts. Christine works in Boston as a legal assistant.  

Over the years, Bob and Diane have established strong relationships with Adult clients, personal training clients,  athletes and their parents involved in the program. Diane and Bob reside in Peabody.

Prior to joining the staff at Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning, Steve Bunker practiced law as a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association.

Steve earned degrees from the following institutions: BA from Wake Forest University; JD from Suffolk University in Boston; BS in Exercise Science from the University of Massachusetts.

He is also an NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a USA Weightlifting Club Coach.

In addition to coaching athletes of all levels and ages, Steve is the Education and Internship Coordinator at Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning.

Kevin Carr Kevin Carr
Strength and Conditioning, Licensed Massage Therapist

Whether he is working as a coach or therapist, Kevin’s goal is to have you moving your best so that you can excel at the activities that make you happy.

Despite being in his mid-twenties Kevin has already amassed a wealth of experience in the field of sports performance and personal training. Working with everyone from US Olympians looking for a competitive edge to the Average Joe or looking to shed some pounds and get healthier he has helped countless clients move better and live healthier lives.

In addition to receiving a Bachelor Degree in Kinesiology from The University of Massachusetts-Amherst and a License in Massage Therapy from Cortiva Institute- Watertown he is also credited with the completion of numerous continuing education certifications including FMS, SFMA, NKT Level 1 and 2 and PRI.

He has recently found a specialization in restoring movement patterns in clients with pain and dysfunction and helping them reclaim their active lifestyles.

Marco Sanchez Marco Sanchez
Strength & Conditioning Coach, Licensed Massage Therapist

Marco is a Strength and Conditioning Coach, Personal Trainer and Massage Therapist at MBSC. Since joining MBSC in 2009, he has been helping everyone from Olympic to High School athletes, and everyday athletes of life with their goals to perform, move and live better.

Marco studied Exercise and Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Boston and has a Massage Therapy License from the Cortiva Institute in Watertown, MA.

Marco is also the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Worcester Sharks professional Ice-Hockey team, the American League affiliate of the San Jose Sharks.

With a strong resume of continuing education (FMS, SFMA, NKT, PRI and RockTape), Marco combines various training and treatment philosophies in order to help clients achieve their goals and eliminate pain.

Katie Brooks Katie Brooks
Strength & Conditioning

Katie graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in Psychology and an Exercise and Sport Science minor. She was a captain of the women’s soccer team, and a two-time captain of the women’s lacrosse team at UNC. During her tenure, the women’s
soccer program captured three ACC championship titles and the National Championship title in 2006. She competed in a second National Championship game her final season on the lacrosse field. Katie was a member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll from 2004-2009 and was a
three-time recipient of the Carolina Leadership Academy’s 3-Dimensional Leader Award. After graduating, Katie competed in the 2009 Women’s Lacrosse World Cup in the Czech Republic, earning a Bronze medal as a member of the Canadian National Team, and is
currently training for the 2013 World Cup to be held in Ontario. This past year, Katie climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa and tested herself in the sport of triathlon, competing in her first
Ironman in November. She qualified for, and will be competing in the 70.3 Ironman World Championships in Las Vegas in September, 2012. Katie attended Winchester High School and after training and working with MBSC before college, she is excited to return.

Gabe Patton Gabe Patton
Strength and Conditioning

Gabe joined the staff at MBSC in the summer of 2001 working as a part-time strength coach until graduating from Connecticut College in 2007.  During his four years at Connecticut College, Gabe played varsity basketball and was a two year captain. Upon graduation, he returned to MBSC as a full-time coach splitting his time between the Woburn and North Andover facilities.  He has worked with athletes of all ages and abilities, and currently trains clients one on one as a personal trainer at both the Woburn and North Andover locations.  In addition to training athletes at MBSC, Gabe also spent the summer of 2006 interning with the Boston Celtics, assisting in coaching their offseason strength and conditioning program.  He is currently working on his Strength and Conditioning Specialist Certification (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). 

Ana Tocco Ana Tocco
Strength and Conditioning

Ana joined the MBSC Team in the winter of 2011. She earned her B.S. in Kinesiology at the University of Massachusetts. While attending UMass Amherst, Ana dedicated three years of her athletic career to the Women’s Rowing Team. They were a successful crew winning the A-10 Championships, Dad Vail Regatta, and US Rowing Collegiate Championship races.

Before coming to MBSC, Ana completed multiple internships at Athletic Evolution and B&S Sports Performance and worked as a Personal Trainer in Boston, MA at Fitcorp.

Recently, Ana graduated from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and is now a Certified Wellness Coach through the American Association of Drugless Practitioners (AADP).  She is excited and willing to help her clients and athletes reach their optimal wellness and strength!

Ana is a Certified Kettlebell Instructor (SFG), and also holds certifications in the Functional Movement Screening (FMS), and Postural Restorative Institute (PRI).  

Kevin Larrabee Kevin Larrabee
Strength & Conditioning

Kevin Larrabee graduated from Keene State College with a BS in Health Science in August 2008. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

In April of 2006 he created The FitCast, a weekly fitness and nutrition podcast that features the biggest and brightest coaches and trainers in the fitness industry including Mike Boyle, Alwyn Cosgrove, Rachel Cosgrove, Eric Cressey, Mike Robertson, Robert "Dos" Remedios, Dr. John Berardi and many more.. The FitCast has over 5,500 listeners per week making it one of the top podcasts in it’s category on iTunes.

In December 2008 Kevin completed an internship at Cressey Performance in Hudson, MA. There he worked with a wide demographic from weekend warriors to high school, college, and minor league and professional athletes.

After the internship Kevin worked at a commercial facility where he lead the staff in personal training sessions for 8 months straight while continuing to educate himself by attending seminars and reading working with a wide demographic of clients.

Kevin joined the MBSC staff in October of 2009 to continue to grow as a strength coach and to work with the best minds in the strength and conditioning field.

Casey Munsen Casey Munsen
Strength and Conditioning

   Casey was a 4 year varsity starter on the Melrose High School Wrestling Team. He was also the captain, first team all-star, and Middlesex League Champion. After high school, Casey went on to UNH where he studied exercise science. He has now graduated with a Bachelor of Science, sports and health studies and graduated with Honors He joined the staff of MBSC in the summer of 2011 after completing a semester of internship at MBSC. Casey is also working with the Boston University Hockey Team as a volunteer strength and conditioning coach as well as a with Boston College Olympic sports and the Merrimack football team.

     While working at MBSC Casey has been the assistant strength and conditioning coach, alongside Mike Boyle, for the Pro group for the past two summers. He as also worked as the strength and conditioning coach with the USA development hockey program as well as work with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Casey is also the head strength and conditioning coach for the Austin Prep Varsity Hockey team and has held that position for the past 3 years.

     Casey is also furthering his education by attending seminars and conferences in various states across the country

Mike Vaughan Mike Vaughan
Strength & Conditioning

Mike is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) as well as a USA Weightlifting Level 1 Sports Performance Coach. He has been a member of the MBSC team since the summer of 2012.

While at MBSC, Mike has coached individuals ranging from the Professional and Olympic ranks to high school and middle school athletes to adult clients looking to move well and feel better on a day-to-day basis.

In addition to working at MBSC, Mike is an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach with the USA Women’s National Hockey Team.

As an undergrad at Fitchburg State University, Mike was a three-year starter at defensive back for the Falcon football team. Upon earning his Bachelor’s Degree at FSU, Mike completed internships with Northeastern University and USA Hockey.

Mike continues to pursue his education by attending various conferences and seminars in order to help you attain all of your current and future fitness goals.

Nick Wilcox Nick Wilcox
Strength and Conditioning

     Nick joined the MBSC team after completing the Fall 2012 internship program.  Nick is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the NSCA, as well as a Level 1 Performance Coach through USA Weightlifting (USAW).

     While at MBSC Nick has had the privilege to work with clients ranging from Professional Athletes striving to gain a leg up on the competition, to the average person just looking to simply move and feel better.  In addition, Nick is currently training various members of the USA Olympic Judo Team in preparation for various tournaments and ultimately the 2016 Summer Olympics.

     As well as receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of Rhode Island, Nick was also a member of the Men’s Soccer team.  Nick continues his education in the field of Human Performance by attending various seminars and conferences throughout the country.

Kristina Jennings Kristina Jennings
Strength and Conditioning

Kristina graduated with a degree in Kinesiology from UMass Amherst. She started off playing soccer at the University of Rhode Island and continued to play soccer at UMass Amherst when she transferred. Kristina was a competitive gymnast growing up and competed throughout high school.Playing sports and staying active have always been passions of hers. She enjoys working with athletes and clients of all ages while helping them rise to the next level of fitness. Prior to working at MBSC Kristina completed internships at Amherst College Strength and Conditioning and CATZ Sports Performance & Physical Therapy. While at MBSC, Kristina has worked with the Winchester Girls Soccer team, the U-19 Boston Shamrocks, and the Winchester Boys Hockey team.

Kristina is currently enrolled at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition (IIN) as she hopes to encourage her clients to live a healthy and well-balanced lifestyle while helping them learn how to feel their best on and off the field.

Ken Whittier Ken Whittier
Strength and Conditioning

Ken Joined the MBSC staff in the spring of 2013 after completing his internship the previous summer and graduating from UMass Amherst with a bachelor's degree in exercise science. Ken works with clients and athletes of all ages ranging from elite level college athletes to middle school and adult groups. Currently he assists in training Craig Breslow (Red Sox), Rich Hill (Yankees), Jeremy Bleich(Yankees), and Chris Carpenter (Japan). Ken has also worked with NFL wide receivers, NHL athletes, division 1 athletes in baseball, football, men's and women's hockey, basketball, and continues to work with the Malden Catholic Varsity Hockey team. In addition to working with a large range of athletes, he is the Internship Coordinator alongside Kristina Jennings. He is also a NPA level 1 coach and is studying for his CSCS.

Mike DeGregorio Mike DeGregorio
Strength and Conditioning

Mike is a Certified Personal Trainer, a Sports Performance Enhancement Specialist, and a Sergeant (SGT) in the United States Army.  In the winter of 2012, Mike interned at MBSC. He was then hired as a fulltime strength and conditioning coach.

Mike has always been involved in sports, playing football, baseball and hockey from a young age.  At Central Catholic High School, Mike narrowed his focused to hockey. Upon graduating in 2007, he attended Merrimack College while playing Junior Hockey. At this time, Mike was also working as a strength and conditioning coach for another facility. Mike was an assistant coach for the Empire Junior B Hockey Team and assisted with on ice skills for the Valley Junior Warrior program.

In 2009, Mike put his career on hold to join the United States Army. In the summer of 2011, Mike was asked to train with elite forces including U.S. Army Rangers and Special Forces for secret missions in accordance with Operation Legion Copperhead. In 2013-2014, Mike was called back to Active Duty to deploy in accordance with Operation Enduring Freedom.  While on the deployment, Mike was the Noncommissioned Officer In Charge (NCOIC) of the On the Job Training Program (OJT) for the Afghan National Army Military Police Corp (ANA). During this time, Mike and a five man team, created and successfully implemented a training program that had been previously unsuccessful in all attempts throughout the war. Mike and his team graduated over 400 ANA soldiers.

Once back in the U.S., Mike returned to MBSC.  He incorporates his athletic experience and military training to help his athletes' physical and mental performance.

Dan McGinley Dan McGinley
Strength and Conditioning

Dan earned a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education/ Exercise Science from Bridgewater State University.  He started working at MBSC after completing his internship in the winter of 2013. 

Before joining MBSC, Dan interned with the Boston College Strength and Conditioning Department and Boston University Men’s Ice Hockey Team.  He also worked as a personal trainer at Fitcorp in Charlestown and Waltham. 

He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA and is CPR-AED certified.  Dan has extensive experience working with athletes and clients of all ability levels and loves helping his athletes and clients move and perform at their best.

Tia Nardella Tia Nardella
Strength and Conditioining

Tia graduated with a B.S. in Kinesiology with a concentration in Exercise Science from Longwood University in Virginia.  While there she was a four year scholarship athlete on the women’s soccer team, serving as team captain her senior year.  Her first two years out of college she worked as a personal trainer in Wellesley, MA specializing in sports performance, injury prevention and rehabilitation.  Tia spent 2012-2013 in Italy playing professional soccer in its top division, Serie A, on UPC Tavagnacco.  The team went undefeated and finished second in the standings winning the Copa d’Italia (national tournament) for the first time in team history, and secured a position in the 2013-2014 UEFA Champions League.   Tia officially joins the MBSC staff as a strength and conditioning coach after spending the 2013-2014 season as the Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach at St. Bonaventure University in upstate, NY.  That year the Bonnies made it to the semi-finals in the A-10 conference tournament  for only the second time in the programs history.  She is an ASCM Certified Personal Trainer and a NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.  As a Brookline, MA native, Tia is happy to be back coaching and training in the Boston area.

Steve Bigelow Steve Bigelow
Strength and Conditioning

Stephen Joined the MBSC team after completing the Summer 2014 internship program.  Since his time at MBSC, he has coached all types of athletes ranging from middle-school kids to adults and enjoys helping all kinds of athletes reach their personal and performance goals. 

 Stephen graduated from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst where he was a captain of the Men's Track and Field team.  During his career he amassed several athletic and academic awards including two All-New England selections and the UMass Spring Scholar Athlete distinction in 2014.

 Stephen is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and a Level 1 Sports Performance Coach through USA Weightlifting.

Billy McSheffrey Billy McSheffrey
Strength and Conditioining

    Billy McSheffrey joined the MBSC staff in the fall of 2014. He believes everyone has the potential to move and feel better, which is why he enjoys helping others achieve their athletic and/or life goals. His passion for human movement and sports performance has brought him to many different settings. He has completed several internships at the collegiate and professional levels, and most recently at MBSC in the summer of 2014. He has also worked in a post rehabilitation setting for the past four years helping clients regain quality of life or return to their respective sport with confidence.

Billy is finishing his Masters degree in Strength and Conditioning from Springfield College. The Enfield, CT native received his Bachelors degree in Exercise Science from the University of Rhode Island in the spring of 2010. He is a certified strength and conditioning coach through the NSCA and a level one Olympic weightlifting coach through the USAW.

Vinny Talluto Vinny Talluto
Strength and Conditioning

    Vinny joined the MBSC team after completing the Summer 2014 internship program. He is a graduate from the University of Massachusetts Lowell with a degree in Exercise Physiology and minors in both Nutrition and Psychology. 

    Vinny believes as a strength and conditioning coach it is his responsibility to lead by example and impact all athletes and clients lives in a positive way. During every session his main focus is on mentoring, teaching, and inspiring his athletes and clients to help them reach their goals. Since joining MBSC, Vinny has had the privilege of working with athletes of all ages ranging from elite level college athletes to middle school and adult groups. Currently, he is interning at Merrimack College where he works as a strength and conditioning coach for the baseball, hockey, track & field, and softball teams. 

   Vinny is a Level One Sports Performance Coach through the USA Weightlifting (USAW) and is currently working towards becoming a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Associations (NSCA).

Steve Brink Steve Brink
Strength and Conditioning
Steve Brink joined the MBSC Staff in 2014. Steve graduated from Springfield College where he played varsity football and lacrosse and majored in Applied Exercise Science. Steve is a Level One Sports Performance Coach through the USA Weightlifting (USAW) and is currently working towards becoming a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Associations (NSCA). Before joining MBSC, Steve was a Personal Trainer/Manager of a private gym in Saratoga Springs, NY. Steve interned at the University of Delaware, the University at Albany and Union College as a Strength and Conditioning coach developing and implementing individual and team programs for student athletes across a variety of sports. While volunteering at Skidmore College, Steve assisted faculty with cutting-edge research on adults' physical development, whey protein effectiveness, and cyber cyclists. Steve enjoys working with individuals, groups and sports teams to help them achieve their specific health, strength andperformance related goals and is proud to part of the MBSC team.

Brendon Rearick Brendon Rearick
Strength & Conditioning, Licensed Massage Therapist

Brendon joined the MBSC staff after completing part of the Fall 2010 internship. He is a graduate of The University of Massachusetts-Amherst with a BS in Kinesiology, a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), and a licensed massage therapist (LMT)

Brendon was always involved in sports and exercise growing up, a passion which ultimately led him to pursue a career where he can help others reach their fitness and athletic goals. In addition to working as a personal trainer strength and conditioning coach at Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning (MBSC) Brendon is also the internship coordinator, programming director, and educational contributor for MBSC Thrive.

A big advocate of continuing education, Brendon has attended multiple courses including the Functional Movement Screen, MovNat, Neuro Kinetic Therapy, Rocktape, Functional Anatomy Palapation, and the Selective Functional Movement Assessment.

When he’s not at work or attending an educational workshop, Brendon loves to read, write, travel, and enjoy the outdoors.

Vinnie Calautti Vinnie Calautti
Strength and Conditioning

Vinnie graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a degree in Kinesiology in 2012.  While at UMASS, Vinnie worked as a strength and conditioning intern to the Division 1 Men's Basketball Team.  Currently, in addition to working at MBSC as a strength and conditioning coach, Vinnie volunteers his time as a strength and conditioning coach to the Boston University Basketball Team as well as the Visionary Basketball Group. 

Vinnie is a Level 1 Sports Performance Coach with the USAW.  He also holds a Personal Training Certification through ACE.  In addition, Vinnie is working towards becoming a Certified Strength Coach with the NSCA.

John Pallof John Pallof
Physical Therapist - PT, OCS, COMT, CSCS

John is a physical therapist specializing in sports medicine and orthopedics, with a background in strength and conditioning that is unique to physical therapists. John graduated in 1997 from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy. In addition:

  • John is a board certified specialist in orthopedics (OCS), as administered by the American Physical Therapy Association.
  • Has earned the designation of Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist (COMT), after a rigorous educational series via Maitland Australian Physiotherapy.
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) via the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

John has treated athletes of all levels, from youth to professional, from all sports. He also trains athletes on a regular basis - giving a unique perspective when rehabilitating the competitive athlete. His blend of advanced manual therapy skills along with practical experience training and rehabilitating athletes leads to exceptional outcomes, and a rapid return to sport.

Karen Wood Karen Wood
Licenced Massage Therapist & Personal Trainer (LMT, CPT through NSCA, NASM)

Karen has been a strength and conditioning coach for 12 years and a Licensed Massage Therapist for 2 years. She has been the assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach to Mike Boyle and the Boston University Men's Hockey Team for 5 years and the team's massage therapist for the past year.  Karen believes that strength and conditioning and massage therapy go hand in hand. When there are soft tissue imbalances in the body, it is impossible to work to your full potential, and the combination of strength enhancement and soft tissue massage help remedy these limitations.


Karen has studied various course regimens, eventually gravitating more toward injury prevention and overuse patterns focusing on hip, shoulder and back problems. Soft tissue (muscles and connective tissue) work can help with chronic pain, overuse issues, acute injury and speed recovery. Reading a variety of articles written by specialists in specific fields, participating in roundtable discussions with medical and rehabilitation professionals and attending numerous seminars given by experts in the field allows Karen to stay current with research and modalities that focus on the mechanism of injuries and best ways to treat them.
